14 September: Armenian Rock for violin solo
20 September 2025
Armenian Rock for violin and piano was the second piece composed by Michel Petrossian that we heard at the inaugural concert of ModComFest in Teatro Marrucino. The manuscript of this work was written when the Maestro was only sixteen.
Despite the naivety and inexperience of a beginner composer, he found some interesting ideas and expressed unique youthful energy. Thus, he composed Armenian Rock, inspired by György Ligeti’s Hungarian Rock. The violin takes on the role of the electric guitar, while the piano provides the parts of the bass, drums, and keyboards. This music reflects, in one of my musical phases, the progressive rock of bands like Led Zeppelin and Gentle Giant, according to the words of the composer.
