Michel Petrossian’s Opera Job, le procès de Dieu Premieres in Geneva

Michel Petrossian’s Opera Job, le procès de Dieu Premieres in Geneva
Michel Petrossian’s opera Job, le procès de Dieu premieres in Geneva June 10–14, 2025, at The Blue City. Blending baroque, traditional, and contemporary music, it explores suffering and faith through the story of Job.

Acclaimed composer Michel Petrossian brings his powerful new opera, Job, le procès de Dieu (The Trial of God), to the stage in Geneva from June 10 to June 14, 2025. This deeply evocative work, set in the striking backdrop of The Blue City, presents a poignant meditation on suffering, faith, and the search for meaning.

Under the musical direction of French maestro Léo Margue and the stage direction of Anaïs de Courson, Job, le procès de Dieu intertwines baroque heritage, traditional music, and contemporary composition. Petrossian’s score creates an intricate dialogue between these musical realms, offering a profound reflection on the human condition.

At the heart of the opera lies the harrowing story of a man—Job—who, seated in ashes, grapples with inexplicable suffering. His anguish is met not with solace but with interrogation, as even those closest to him fail to provide understanding. Inspired by the biblical narrative, the opera reimagines Job’s trials in a modern context, resonating with today’s uncertainties and moral dilemmas.

The production features a stellar cast, including Fabien Hyon, Gloria Tronel, Mathilde Ortscheidt, and Alexia MacBeth, whose performances bring raw emotion to the stage. Job, le procès de Dieu is not just a musical drama but an existential reckoning—one that echoes through time, from ancient scripture to the contemporary world.

This premiere marks a significant milestone in Petrossian’s career, further solidifying his reputation as one of today’s most compelling voices in contemporary opera.
